Thieves are not Tolerated in China

So I was browsing the net recently, and I suddenly remembered about an interesting video I saw in the past that I thought would be fun to blog about. The first video was of a thief on a motorcycle in China, who committed a drive-by theft of a woman's purse. The lady immediately ran after the thief, followed by a couple of other people. Suddenly, the man on the motorcycle turns back and crashes into a car. Everyone then unites and starts punishing the thief. Two unique things are seen in this video: the strength and unity of the Chinese community, and it's tolerance for crime.

This video leads to my second video, in which is another situation where a group of civilians catch a thief. However, in this situation, it is seen more graphically. The thieves are brutally beaten; having their heads smashed against the floor, and bricks jammed and thrown on their hands and bodies.

One can argue that this is inhumane, and I must agree that it is to an extent. I do believe that the thieves have it coming if they get caught for committing a crime. But having bricks blasted at their body parts is going a bit over the edge. It can be put in the same category of punishment by the electric chair. Although it might still seem very wrong, I still have to say again, that they did deserve what was coming to them. The Chinese have no tolerance when it comes to breaking the rules. What do you think?

Behind the Scenes of Meat Production

I live to eat. I absolutely adore food, especially MEAT! Beef, chicken, lamb, duck... you name it, I eat it! However, my friend recently sent me a video (a really disturbing one) of what goes on behind the scenes of meat production. As we all probably know, the meat industry isn't really the most animal-friendly industry out there. After watching the video, I felt sick (which I don't normally feel); It made me feel sick to watch how people treat these other living creatures as if they couldn't feel pain. It was pure evil and disgusting. Here is the video, *viewer discretion is advised*:

How cruel can humans be? Throwing live new born chicks into grinders, castrating piglets without painkillers while they squeal in horror, slicing a cow open while it's still alive... that's just to name a few. The video is trying to raise awareness of animal cruelty in meat industry and to convert people to veganism. I don't think I'll turn vegan from this video, but it for sure raised my awareness of these horrible methods, and I will for sure be aware of the different kinds of meat before I buy it.

What do you think about this video? Has it changed your liking for meat? Try watching Epic MealTime after this!

To Help or Not to Help

I recently came across a video on YouTube that really irritated me. It was a clip caught by a traffic cam, where a young 2 year old girl in China, gets hit by a truck and is literally crushed. The truck commits a hit and run, and the toddler is left dying on the street pleading for help. Minutes and hours pass by and no one helps her. As I watched every single person pass by, I felt hurt and disgusted at how some people are so heartless in the world. Finally, after EIGHTEEN people pass by, it was a homeless lady who finally came to her help, but by then she is already unconscious and unresponsive.

Yueyue, the 2 year old girl, is currently in critical condition and brain dead. My sympathies go out to the parents who are deciding whether or not they should stop her suffering and let her die. Here is the video (the incident happens at 1:06; the video is really graphic and not for the faint of heart):

Watching this video made me feel disgusted of how some people in this world could care less about other people, especially a dying 2 year old girl. The excuses of many of the passerbys were that "they didn't see her" or "they were scared." In China, some people are scared that if they help someone injured, they have a chance of getting sued, even if they didn't do anything wrong (as was the case 5 years ago, when a woman broke her hip and sued the man who tried to help her). Here is the full article on the reasons why these witnesses didn't help: Ignored toddler doesn’t tell the whole story about China

Given these reasons, even though if these witnesses were scared of being sued (by the parents), they could have at least called an ambulance or kept an eye on the girl. I mean, it's an innocent little baby crying for help! I personally wouldn't have cared about the consequences, I would've ran to the child and helped her anyway I could.

I honestly am enraged at how some people in our world are so heartless! I am a very proud Chinese, but watching this video and the behaviors of these Chinese citizens has shamed me and disappointed me. It frustrates and at the same time depresses me. I just hope you know that not all Chinese are like this.

Grocery Shopping at a whole different level!

So in one of my Information System classes, we learned about a company that revolutionized the way people shop for groceries. Instead of going to a grocery store or supermarket to buy their daily food supplies, people can now maximize their time and buy their weekly groceries in the comfort of their own home. This company is called Fresh Direct, and is an online grocery store having their main offices situated in New York.

I found it pretty cool how even something like food can now be delivered to your footsteps through the computer. Reading about FreshDirect, I couldn't imagine what more could technology bring to the food industry... until I came across a video of a very unique system in South Korea, in which grocery shopping can happen anywhere at anytime with just a click of a button on your smart phone. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean:

A major problem that everyone in the world is suffering, is the scarcity of time. However, with the extremely rapid growth of technology, the problem with scarcity of time, is trying to be solved. I really can't wait to see what the future of technology will bring for us! Maybe one day, we'll be able to teleport from one place to another.
